DSL (Digital Subscriber Line) is the same as the High Speed phone lines.

I use Zonealarm (http://www.zonealarm.com/) on medium/high settings and don't have any data flow problems.

Anyone with a Cable or DSL line should have at least one firewall running at all times. These type of connections without a firewall are a hackers dream. I also run Windows 2000 - not just for the stability but also for the security.
