Actually, there are holdouts. What do you think Hasidism is about? Or the Muslim Brotherhood, for that matter? Or the Amish? Genetic research......It is actually pretty simple. One does not cure a trait unless is it widely acknowledged to be a defect, like color-blindness or Tay-Sachs. Otherwise, it is unwise to manipulate human genes, since we cannot anticipate the repercussions.......
