I was on a fast attack. Big and black and never come back:) USS Finback SSN-670. We were based out of Norfolk with Subron 6. Did North Atlantic runs and Med runs. 1 around the world trip underwater while I was with her. We also surfaced on the North Pole and played softball. Practicing our under ice maneuver's. Made great pictures!

You know, join the Navy and see the world. Most of my memories are of the O2 generator in machinery 1. Gladys and I were on a first name basis:)

Interesting boat if you look it up. The diesel version was the one that picked GW Sr. out of the water on life guard patrol in WW II. GW spent a month if my memory serve's me correct onboard and endured a couple of depth charge attacks (a pleasure I don't share with him thank goodness). Nuc boat was the one with the stripper on the fairwater plane (the wing coming out of the conning tower) while leaving one of their port calls. Cost the Captain his job but left a good story for the rest of us!

I had a great time hunting the opponent which is what a fast attack does. Run silent and hunt. Much better then being the hunted which is how the SSBN's are IMO.

Here is a picture of the Sea Devil SSN 664 with # 1 and 2 periscope up coming into port with the maneuvering watch set. We would look identical to this on Finback.

This is a better picture that would show the fairwater planes sealion.com
