I wanted to follow up on a question I asked a couple of weeks ago about why I couldn't get a price series to export as a link into Excel and update itself. I know what I was doing wrong now and I thought I would post it in the hopes that it may help someone else. I was highlighting a price series in Metastock, then going to Excel, clicking on a cell, then going to paste special, clicking "paste link" and "csv". This would paste the data set into the spreadsheet but it wouldn't update with the next day's data. The key is (seems obvious in retrospect) is that you have to highlight a block of cells that is larger than the data set (like >2000 cells if you have 2000 days of data)then do the paste special, paste link, csv.

If you do what I was doing wrong and just highlight the first cell and paste special the link will only paste a block of cells that is as big as the number of days of data you have at that point. The next day, the data set will be 1 cell bigger but your block of linked cells isn't so it won't look like it updated.

This is really basic I guess but I bet a lot of people haven't realized this yet.

By the way, thanks to Michael Olds for trying to help even though I didn't have my question spelled out well enough.

Bob
