Dashing Mike,

In Canada's recent election, one geographic area hand counted 14 million ballots within four hours after the polls closed.

I'm assuming you're referring to the provinces of Quebec, Ontario, Manitoba, Saskatchewan and Alberta, which for the first time in Canadian history had all their polls close at the same time despite the fact that they span at least 3 time zones. (I'm sure this was done in response to Internet evolution). British Columbia, which is on the same time zone as the U.S. West Coast, closed their polls 1/2 hour after Ontario (Eastern USA time zone).

There couldn't be any Twilight Chad Zone in the Canadian election, as we used good 'ole HB pencils to mark a big X on our ballots (at least in Ontario). No machines within spitting distance of the ballot boxes.

Government sources credit the speedy count of ballots to the stipulation that all Elections Canada personnel were each required to prove the existence of all 10 fingers and 10 toes.
