Bell Intrigna Selects Alcatel's Industry Leading DSL Solution Deployment of Alcatel 7350 ASAM further enhances Bell Intrigna's market reach
Paris - December 4, 2000 - Alcatel (Paris: CGEP.PA and NYSE: ALA) today announced that Bell Intrigna has selected Alcatel's industry leading DSL (digital subscriber line) solution to provide equipment and services for its DSL-enabled network. The network deployment, valued at approximately Cdn $12 million, will enable Bell Intrigna - a leading provider of telecommunications solutions for Western Canadian businesses - to further expand its operating footprint.
"This agreement marks another step in Bell Intrigna's strategy to deliver leading-edge telecommunications solutions to businesses throughout Alberta and British Columbia," said Murray Korth, president and CEO of Bell Intrigna. "This new DSL infrastructure, facilitated by Alcatel's leading technology, will enable Bell Intrigna to increase our market reach and provide the end-to-end quality of service that our customers demand." Network deployment is currently underway. Key portions of the infrastructure will be operational by the end of January 2001, with the full network completed by the second quarter of 2001.
The contract includes deployment of the Alcatel 7350 ASAM Multiservice Platform, as well as the Alcatel 5620 Network Manager. The Alcatel 7350 combines ADSL (asymmetric digital subscriber line) with symmetrical DSL access delivery, ATM and IP switching, quality of service guarantees, and versatile transport. The Alcatel 5620 will provide Bell Intrigna seamless, end-to-end management of the network and service delivery, and enables the company to extend these capabilities across its network, consistent with the nation-wide IP network deployed by its strategic partner, Bell Nexxia. Combined, these products will enable Bell Intrigna to offer high speed Internet and corporate network access digitally over standard copper telephone wires at costs lower than traditional dedicated private line service.
""The deployment of Alcatel DSL will allow Bell Intrigna to offer not only high speed Internet, but the ability to seamlessly expand to include a total package of interactive communications services," said Lou Mitrovich, vice-president of sales for Alcatel Canada. "The 7350 ASAM enables service providers like Bell Intrigna to offer video broadcast, video on demand and teleconferencing, all over the existing telephone lines that run into their customers' buildings, providing almost limitless opportunities to further enhance brand image. "
