SEATTLE, WA, December 5, 2000 - Two privately held companies, American Flywheel Systems. Inc. (AFS) and Trinity Flywheel Power (Trinity), today merged and created AFS Trinity Power Corporation (AFS Trinity) to address the $12 billion market for power technology serving the digital economy.
Headquarters of the combined company will be in Seattle and most manufacturing and R&D will be located in Livermore, California, outside San Francisco; the company has no plans to relocate other R&D programs now operating on the East Coast, according to Edward W. Furia, who is Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of the combined company. also, semi-OT Flywheel Containment Testing Test Devices is currently co-chair of the Flywheel Containment Working Group, a technology consortium sponsored by the Defense Advanced Projects Research Agency (DARPA) and the Southern Coalition for Advanced Transportation (SCAT). This consortium is tasked to design and test flywheel containment structures; analyze failure modes of complex composite systems; enhance flywheel testing safety, and ultimately help to design and qualify safe containment structures for commercial flywheel energy storage systems.
