Ed, USSC gave clear signal repudiating FLSC justification but they did so without seriously harming FLSC's image USSC could have reversed extended deadline, scolded them for infringing upon Legislature's authority, and scolded them again for causing some chaos
they could have said FLSC acted as a political body attempting to expedite a difficult conflicting situation but in the meantime they changed rule expostfacto, threatening due process
USSC treated FLSC with kid gloves they made their point with a clear signal, yes but they managed not to thoroughly embarrass FLSC the real intelligent population and the legal community regard for sure the USSC wording as a clear repudiation but NOT in the eyes of 95% of America, which view it as punt
FLSC must remain solidly in charge, respected, looked up to the last thing we need now is for a big dispute over FLSC you know, an attack from the Right, countered by Left, questioning its authority, doubting its potential role to end this election dispute that would add to the chaos by an order of magnitude
we basically have a big battle here: idealistic view on voting rights VERSUS practical voting procedures
if I had written the USSC ruling, unconcerned about consequence politically, I would have slammed FLSC ten times worse
