Re: USA Broadband Stats - DSL and CM from Cahners

elmatador- Kind of hard to argue the death of DSL when you look over these stats. Maybe you should change the theme to 'death of CLECs' instead? Or are you of the opinion if/when CLECs die, so does DSL?

Scroll down to bottom of web page url below for up-to-date stats(Q300). IMO the figures are on the low side as they do not include ALL the players in the cableco and telco game that offer CM or DSL service.

The forecast for DSL and CM subs by year end 2000 pretty much target 5,000,000 total. Something like 3,000,000 CM subs and 2,000,000 DSL subs.

If this holds---44,000 CM installs per week and 23,000 DSL installs per week, it appears the results will be light on the DSL side, and heavy on the CM side. Especially consider all the problems the CLECs are having. It's pretty certain DSL will come in light of forecasts. But so far, CM seems to be hanging in there(knock on wood).

CM -cable modem
DSL -digital subscriber line
CLEC -competitive local exchange carrier
