Agilent Technologies' New Bluetooth Measurement Solutions Enable Short-Range Interconnectivity of Mobile Devices SAN JOSE, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Dec. 5, 2000--
Test Solutions Will Speed the Availability of Products That Interoperate Free of Cabling, Including Cell Phones.
Agilent Technologies Inc. (NYSE:A), a leading provider of innovative technologies for communications and life sciences, today introduced Bluetooth test solutions for the designers and manufacturers of electronic devices. Bluetooth, a commercial specification for short-range wireless connectivity, lets consumers connect information appliances such as printers, PDAs, headsets, keyboards, cellular phones and computers without cables. Agilent's design and test products will help Bluetooth developers go from concept to reality quickly and efficiently so that they can meet their time-to-market goals.
"Bluetooth is a wave of the future," said George Sparks, vice president of Agilent's Wireless Market Solutions Unit. "Over 2,000 companies have registered to use the technology, and we can expect a proliferation of Bluetooth devices. Agilent has worked closely with the Bluetooth Special Interest Group on the standard's testing sections, which has given us an appreciation for the complexity of Bluetooth testing. We have applied this insight to the design of our instruments."
The new solutions complement Agilent's existing tools for Bluetooth design, verification and manufacturing, and include a stand-alone Bluetooth communication test set, a spectrum analyzer customized for Bluetooth testing, and new generator capabilities. The easy-to-operate test set, developed in cooperation with RTX Telecom of Denmark, a leading developer of Bluetooth and other mobile communications technologies, tests Bluetooth device functionality and verifies conformance to key specifications over a standard Bluetooth link. The ESA-E RF spectrum analyzer features a timesaving Bluetooth measurement function that automatically executes Bluetooth transmitter tests. The ESG-D series signal generator now includes expanded Bluetooth receiver test capabilities and simplified bit error rate test set-up.
Products carrying the Bluetooth logo must adhere to strict standards in order to assure seamless operation with different devices. Bluetooth qualification tests are complex and time consuming. The cost of failing is significant in terms of dollars and lost market opportunity. Agilent's in-house pre-qualification test tools enable designers to identify failures in the development lab so that they can be addressed immediately, while production test tools ensure interoperability between devices.
