I am happy to end on an amicable note. "Farewell My Concubine" is a great film. There was a rash of great Chinese films in the early 90s, among them "Raise the Red Lantern" and "To Live". Also, from Taiwan, there was "Eat, Drink,Man,Woman", a charming film about a family headed by a Chinese chef who cannot altogether understand the effects of the modern world on his children.
I never saw the sequels to "The Exorcist", although I certainly admired the original. It has been years since I have seen "The Good Earth". I would be inclined to nominate "Lawrence of Arabia" as the best epic, although it may be that a silent film, "Napoleon" by Abel Gance, is even better.
The only Stephen King novel I have read was "Cary", which was very well crafted.
