I was surprised that this issue didn't get more coverage. A few months ago, our mailboxes were flooded with multi-coloured leaflets informing gun owners of the steps they must take to avoid being deprived of their property. Since I've posted a few times attempting to alleviate my curiosity about why this seems such a hot-button, I decided to delay the mailbox to blue-box toss for a moment and read the thing. It seems simple enough: fill a form; mail it in. At first I didn't appreciate the problem.
The problem is, gun owners need obtain that paper to continue owning guns. Refusal to issue the paper puts the owner in unlawful possession of guns. Although it would be tough to suddenly outlaw guns, it would be simple enough to expand the numbers of permits denied. Deny crazys this year, the unemployed next, then those with red hair, and soon enough, everyone else. About a year ago, I was informed of the history of these pieces of paper...
