Thank you for that post. Nice to see that trend outlined by someone who can't be labelled as an Alberta conspiracy-theory loony.

I think that trend is entirely clear. The time frame for these kinds of initiatives is 20 years. If you read Hansard from the 1968-72 parliament, it's amazing to see how the "bedrooms of the nation" initiatives were perceived. There were Tory backbenchers who raised the "spectre" of abortion on demand, and were laughed out of the place. The idea that a homosexual rights agenda might arise was considered over-the-top scaremongering.

There was a column in the Calgary Herald on election day that drew parallels between the evolution of the gay rights movement circa 1980, and the current treatment, at least in 'enlightened' circles, of pedophilia. I was sorry that the column wasn't on the on-line version of the paper, or I would have posted the link. It made my blood run cold.

I have no doubt that the government believes that guns should only be in hands they control -- the police and the military -- and that they will have used the registration system to take firearms from all law abiding citizens within 20 years. And most of the voters in central Canada think that's fine. A friend of mine moved to Toronto from Edmonton. Among his posessions was his late father's shot gun, which he didn't use for anything other than as a keepsake. The gun was damaged by the movers, so he went to a lawyer to have a claim notarized. The Toronto lawyer looked at him and said, "why on earth would you have such a thing in the first place?" Nuff said.
