I would think that this indeed has to happen. Sandisk may need Lexar technology soon.

Lexar's controller technology is the fastest on the market. With mpeg4 movies coming soon to a PDA and cellphone near you, the need for high-speed flashcards will be significant. I don't know if Sandisk's CF cards are fast enough for the data rate required for mpeg4 movies. Lexar seems to be in a great position with their ultra-fast controller technology and apparently-succussful design-around Sandisk's Patents.

And you can bet that Memory Stick products will stay right there in the lead- already Sony's Palm OS PDA uses Memory Stick for playing movies. Sony may not generate a new standard with MS, but it still looks like it is a success in its own right. Sandisk might well consider branding/lisencing MS as I don't see any one removable flash standard becoming completely dominant.
