The rapid HIV test kits by cmtr, salv and triby probably are not unique really. I posted the link only as further evidence that the
market cmtr will be in is emerging and showing some good growth. I
believe that they can make money with the OTC AWARE kit. However, the
real potential will be with the rapid HIV test. Recently I received a
reply from Ed Covell about their AWARE HIV test (yes, still waiting for approval) and he indicated that CMTR planned to seek FDA approval for the rapid test later this year. At the moment I believe they are in the midst of the clinicals.

Anyone see ColoCARE on the shelves yet?

Hp Chek, according to the 10-Q, should be out by the end of the
second quarter (30 June). Let's hope so. Astra-Merck moves slowly.

Re Parent's Alert... I wrote Ed Covell about it after the announcement expressing some concerns about competition from Psychemedic's hair testing method. In summary, Mr. Covell strongly defended CMTR's decision to distribute the Parent's Alert kit and said that it (the pee test) was still the "gold standard" in this country. When I heard about the hair test from Psychemedics I thought that a parent could
simply get a single strand of hair from their kid's brush or pillow and the kid would never know. Wrong! The test apparently requires a
pencil width clump of hair cut right at the root. Can't do that without Junior knowing, eh? So, my faith is restored in CMTR's market savy. Give a kid the choice of peeing a bit in a cup or cutting a chunk of hair out of his/her scalp and the choice probably will be the cup. Wouldn't want to muss up the hair. KnowWaddIMean?
