Imagine how the poorer everyday-like folk felt, all dressed up with every intention of having a great time, standing in line hours on hours, waiting to get let in to the classy Studio 54-like club. Meanwhile, richer and better connected sorts continually cut and flash past the line, immediately gaining entrance into all the glamour.

Crosscut to election day. You're a Democrat and want to support your candidate. So you drive past all the political tailgate parties, park your car and then begin slinking through a guantlet of hearty signholders. Eventually you make your way to the front door of the polling place. Problem is, there's two huge GOPwinger bullies with Bush tattoos on their forehead, standing heavy in the doorway. One eye look from them and they know instantly you're a Democrat. "Sorry, you can't come in--we're only letting Republicans vote!"

When you add up what happened in the absentee ballot situation in both Seminole and Martin counties, it's exactly like the two scenes described above. A great many Republicans got their absentee ballots, 95 percent of whom voted; but many Democrats did not. Especially given that so few votes separated both Bush and Gore...is this fair?
