Re: P/E of 5+ is a steal

The Itanium/McKinley program seems to be continuing to struggle.
aceshardware.com

While AMD was designing a flexible, general purpose core that should be a solid basis for both desktops and servers, Intel devised two more narrowly focused designs with strengths and weaknesses. P4 is a gaming/multimedia chip, while Itanium is a data cruncher. The goals were similar to microsoft's Windows 98 and Windows NT/2000.

But if the Itanium/McKinley program never gets off the ground, Intel will be forced to try to substitute P4 - the equivalent of pushing Windows 98 for server use, and that will probably get ugly fast. Just as Intel left a big hole for AMD to launch the Athlon into high end desktops, they may be about to do the same thing for AMD's server initiative.

Dan
