+++++++ STANDARD & POOR'S ANNOUNCES CHANGES IN S&P INDICES

New York, N.Y., December 05, 2000 -- Standard & Poor's will make the
following changes in the S&P 500, S&P 100, S&P MidCap 400 and S&P SmallCap
600 Indices: S&P MidCap 400 components QLogic Corp. (NASD:QLGC), Vitesse
Semiconductor (NASD:VTSS), and Stryker Corp. (NYSE:SYK) will replace
Polaroid Corp. (NYSE:PRD), Springs Industries Inc. (NYSE:SMI) and Russell
Corp. (NYSE:RML) in the S&P 500 Index after the close of trading on Monday,
December 11, 2000.

In the S&P MidCap 400 Index, S&P SmallCap 600 components Barr Laboratories
(NYSE:BRL), Dallas Semiconductor (NYSE:DS) and Plexus Corp. (NASD:PLXS) will
replace QLogic Corp, Vitesse Semiconductor and Stryker Corp.

S&P 500 components Polaroid Corp, Springs Industries Inc. and Russell Corp.
will replace Barr Laboratories, Dallas Semiconductor and Plexus Corp. in the
S&P SmallCap 600 Index.

Gillette Co. (NYSE:G) will replace Polaroid in the S&P 100 Index. QLogic
Corp. is a designer and supplier of semiconductor and board level
input/output, or I/O, and management controller products. The company,
headquartered in Aliso Viejo, California, will be added to the S&P 500
Electronics (Semiconductors) industry group. Vitesse Semiconductor is a
supplier of high-performance integrated circuits targeted at systems
manufacturers in the communications and automatic test equipment markets.
The company, headquartered in Camarillo, California, will be added to the
S&P 500 Electronics Semiconductors industry group.
