Actually I disagree with you re: Boies. Even if he could have talked the FSC into stepping in he would have only gained a couple days on the counting. Boies is a good attorney and I'm sure he knew the risks. The same goes for the Republican attorneys who have no doubt offended the Judge in Seminole County by asking her to recuse herself (she declined). Apparently the reason is that she is a Democrat and was recently passed over for promotion by Jeb Bush.

Thus I guess that the county screwed up in the first place an the voter ID should have been printed on the application that was sent to the voter. At least this is my understanding from the above sentence. Also I note that it has been alleged that filling in the voter ID was a violation of Federal and State law, and I have been taking this as a given, but apparently there is some question about that. From the same piece: "It's not an illegal act, it's not a felonious act and the plaintiffs are just wrong -- plain and simple," defense lawyer Jim Hattaway said.
I have to concede that I have absolutely no idea what the law is in this area, nor what the precedents are. Heck, I don't even know what the facts are. Thus I couldn't begin to tell you if what happened was legal, illegal, or otherwise, nor what remedy has been awarded in prior cases. Therefore I, like you, will be relegated to just watching this one to see how it develops.
I also note that Gore is going to switch his message from "Count every vote" to "exclude every vote". LOL From the same article:
While the merits of the lawsuit will be tried Wednesday, Gore could face a political problem by supporting the Seminole County case or its companion in Martin County, CNN election law analyst David Cardwell said.
It would be bad public relations, Cardwell said, to fight a case before one Florida court arguing that all ballots should be counted, while arguing before another that thousands of ballots should be thrown out.
It just goes to show that there are no grand principles involved here, it's merely a matter doing whatever it takes to win.
