Well, I really don't want to get into religious persecution and all that. I am an armchair historian, like most on the thread, and also an armchair anthropologist/sociologist, and I was just trying to look at the Southern Baptist thing from the standpoint of an anthropologist/sociologist.
I wasn't the first person to notice that the honchos in both parties were Southern Baptists, I read about it in some publication, but the author was too cautious to draw any conclusions, he/she just made the observation.
I know it's not Politically Correct to look at people's religions and try to draw conclusions about how their beliefs affect their behavior, but I thought we weren't being Politically Correct on this thread. But since no one wants to talk about it, I'll drop it.
I wouldn't call the Greek Orthodox religion hypocritical, maybe some of the members are, but the religion seems fine to me. I should mention that my husband and I are big fans of Greek festivals, we try not to miss any, so maybe we will see you in the Spring at the one in Bethesda (can't remember the name), that's our favorite. We also go to the one at Sts. Constantine and Helen, and St. Sophia, in the District, and St. Katherine in Falls Church, and keep meaning to go to the one in Baltimore, but haven't yet. The churches are beautiful, and the priests seem like very fine people and the parishioners seem like very fine people, too. For a while my husband was considering converting to one of the Orthodox religions, from Lutheranism, but didn't. |
