I think the appeal of Christianity is being hurt by all the negative imagery that it insists upon dwelling upon. If you look at Buddhists they all look contented and happy when they find enlightenment. In Christianity, it would seem, the more grisly and gruesome your death (and agonizing) the more God likes you.

Detach yourself from your belief (if that is possible) and think of how your religion looks to non-Christians. Your best and brightest hope, Jesus, was nailed to a cross - and he was the SON of God (I don't know about you, but I sure as sh*t wouldn't let my son get nailed on a cross). Almost all the saints end up being burned or otherwise tortured. Even you seem to seek out tales of death and agony as the highest accomplishments to your faith. This is motivational?

So, I'm going to convert from my naturalistic philosophy that embraces love, compassion and joy for what reason ... ?
