Agreed. And, in any event, few people for any reason feel very "threatened" by the US government. And why should they? We have reached the height of civilization. We have created an extraordinary culture and a set of traditions and institutions that make us the freest, strongest, most open, prosperous and tolerant nation ever.

Did Jefferson really advocate a revolution every 20 years? I don't know, but I have seen countries caught up in perpetual revolution and rebellion. You wouldn't want to live there. Indeed, most people living in such countries (maybe all?) wish they were living here!

As Franklin observed: "There are those who bear hardship with dignity and grace, while others, when presented with pheasant and wine, will protest at length that the wine is not of the highest grade. We wish to constuct our society of the former type."
