PDABuzz.com Announces First Ever PDA BuzzBowl Shootout; Palm OS vs. Pocket PC to Highlight Month Long Contest & Giveaway

Business Wire - Wednesday, December 06, 2000

SAN DIEGO--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Dec. 6, 2000--PDABuzz.com, the definitive online source for PDA news, reviews and discussions, announced today its plan to host the first ever PDA shootout pitting market leaders and up and coming products against one another.

Beginning Jan. 1, 2001, 16 of the top PDAs on the market will square off in a head-to-head clash with the winner being announced on Super Bowl Sunday (Jan. 28, 2001). Unique to the PDA BuzzBowl, visitors to the PDABuzz.com contest page will vote each week for the PDAs they believe should move on to the next round.

Voters will need to register and receive their password at the PDABuzz.com site before they can vote. The tournament will consist of four rounds beginning with the round of 16. Each week the winners will advance to the next round (quarterfinals, semifinals and finals). Rather than only voting for "their" favorite PDA, voters will cast a vote on each head-to-head match up during a particular round. This unique format allows voters to have a voice in each and every match up, voting for the PDA device they feel is best. The winning PDAs of each round will be posted on the PDABuzz site each Monday during the month of January.

"The BuzzBowl Shootout goes far beyond a popularity contest and allows a PDA with the most attractive features, but maybe not the largest market share, to be overall winner. Once and for all actual users of PDA devices can determine which products are the best -- Palm OS, Pocket PC, Psion or others," said Todd Garcia, director of Online Marketing for PDABuzz.com.

Some of the featured PDAs will include market-leading devices from Palm(TM)(Nasdaq:PALM), Handspring(TM)(Nasdaq:HAND), Sony(R)(NYSE:SNY), Compaq(R)(Nasdaq:CPQ), Hewlett-Packard(R)(NYSE:HWP) and Casio Computer Ltd. Microsoft(R) (Nasdaq:MSFT) supplies the Pocket PC operating system for the Compaq, HP and Casio PDAs.

As part of the contest, PDABuzz.com will give away thousands of dollars in PDA software, accessories, as well as some of the top PDA devices. Winners will be chosen from the list of voters after the contest has ended. PDA BuzzBowl Shootout ads will begin running in leading PDA magazines, including Pen Computing, Pocket PC Magazine and Handheld Computing in the month of December. PDA BuzzBowl Shootout Premier sponsors include Microsoft, Handango, DataViz, GO32.com and Handheld Computing.
