Yes Intel was the first to warn, but after the earnings came out, the earnings missed the original projection by such a small amount that people wondered why Intel warned in the first place.

In my opinion Intel has higher credibility than any other high tech company. It appears to be extremely conscientious about about warning as early as possible. It has warned earlier than its customers, and appears to have a better handle on forecasting than Compaq, HP , Dell Gateway etc.

Having said that, I also wonder if Craig Barret knew what he was saying. If Intel can really pull off a humdrum quarter, while everyone else is crumbling, Intel should smell like a rose !

However in this market, all the roses will also be trampled into the dust.
