Maui,

Margin certainly compounded the pain. But, there would have not been any pain if the market did not insist on believing that if Intel is having problems that AMD must be having bigger problems -- fundamentals be damned.

As for Intel, I see them having a disasterous 2001, followed by long term recovery. This recovery will be based on the efficiency of new 12 inch copper fabs, the high performance of their 0.13u (and lower) copper processes, and the ultimate major success of their ARM (Xscale) processor derivatives (which they stole from Digital under the nose of blind federal regulators, while Intel successfully made the FTC believe that they were really interested in DEC's fab). This new foundation won't kick in for another year. In the interim, I see Intel having a few quarters with negative operating income and a stock price largely devalued from the current level. I look for a PE of 15 on lowered forward earnings.

Do you believe that Intel will warn?

Pravin.
