I spoke with investors relation today. I asked them what their product mix was for the first quarter. Investors relation said that 3% of last quarter revenues were generated from the 3.0 drive. The 3.0 drives along with their Champion drives were not shipped till late in the quarter, thus not materially affecting cost-of-goods margin. The shortfall in last quarter revenue projections was attributed to a transition from the old JTS 3.5 product-line to the new Champion Family.

JTS is not presently stating that they will meet Mongomery Securities' projection for next quarter, other than to say that they feel they will be in the range. JTS says that the are now able to control volume production and operating expenses thus helping the bottom-line. However, as you might have read by now, Western Digital came out with a report that anayst feel that there might be excess inventory build-up, thus possible price-cuts which cut into the bottom-line. The article also stated that if there is an excees inventory problem, they feel the situation would correct itself very quickly. In light of this, I think JTS is being responsible in not making predictions when there is so much uncertainty in the storage sector. They still believe they will be profitable for the year.
