I've got some figures and facts I can supply when I get home tonight regarding how union households voted on Nov. 7. I was pleasantly surprised by the support for the Democratic Party and the Gore-Lieberman team that was expressed at the polls a month ago.

That certainly runs counter to the Republican Party philosophy, as we have seen by GOP opposition to motor-voter bills and the like.

I'm sure with a little digging I could provide similar based on a search of the Wall Street Journal archives.

The main point I'm making by pointing out that Big Business outspent organized labor 15-1 is that we hear all this screaming from right-wingers about the evils of labor, but nothing about the greater problem, i.e., the influence Big Business is exerting on the political process.

It is obscene ... the amount of money that Big Business is pouring into the political campaigns.

I've come to this conclusion: If GWB wishes to enforce the Beck decision ... fine. Go for it. Reduce union spending for political causes by about 3-4% tops. But that ain't gonna address the greater problem for the Republicans, namely, members of organized labor getting out the vote by wearing out shoe leather. And now that we've seen how ... by what the UAW did in Michigan and Pennsylvania ... the next campaign will be easier.
