Hi Dave,

I see no end in sight for the "end demand" as long as bits move cheaply.

You may have noticed the flakiness of the Net recently. From scanning NANOG correspondence, I'm sensing that sysops at the backbone level are being directed by the corporate bean counters to tighten the strings on peering issues. In other words we are seeing an escalation of "hot potato" routing due to fiscal constraints being applied. So we have demand constrained by nervous CFOs, meaning we have more dropped packets and non-deliveries on a "best efforts" system and the net result, so to speak, is a decline in end user confidence in the system. And millions of consumers asking why they would want to upgrade to xDSL or a cable modem when the system is so flaky.

I have no doubt in my mind whatsoever about the enterprise response to greater bandwidth. They are on the treadmill and can't get off. Either gain in the bandwidth war or wither. So there will be demand from the desperate.... -w-

Best, Ray
