if greenhouse gases are a problem -- then you can't separate methane from co2 -- they both do the same thing and methane has more heat-trapping capability according to the scientists ...

re efforts to deal with CO2 -- there are efforts underway to look at what is called co2 sequestration -- some of these invloved pumping the CO2 into the earth. Sounds good doesn't it? But what happens if it escapes -- there is a lake in Africa that naturally produces Co2 -- one time in the 80's it erupted -- co2 is heaviear than air -- many people were killed?

But there is a bunch of methane tied up in methane hydrates on the floor of the ocean. I wonder how often these release methane into the air ...

My whole point is there are too many unknowns -- first there is only a correlation, not a proved cause and effect relationship and second, even if you accepted that link -- reducing CO2 emissions is not an easy matter -- EPA and other groups look largely for ways to concentrate blame and not real solutions ...an alternative to coal simply doesn't exist. We can make the choice to make coal/electricity conversion much more expensive and thereby promote conservation -- but that's about all we can do at this point for co2 emitted from burning coal ... perhaps we could achieve more by eating less beef (large methane source) and more grain -- seriously
