Zeev, Yes, they need to bring the cost down a lot. Still at $10 per high end CPU is is reasonable for that small group where the wafer is 100% Si28. Mass separation should result in a far lower price.
I am not quite in agreement on the cost factor. After all the epi layer is shallow and if it adds a gram to the wafer that would result in a cost jump of $75 per wafer and if you get 200 good ones from it that is acceptable at about 40 cents per good part. gets even better at .13. So $75,000 a kilo is acceptable for epitaxial deposition. As for solid wafer a 200 MM afer at 1MM thick weighs about 100 grams(correct me?) and so at 75,000/kilo = $7500/200= $37.50 per CPU???? A lot more than the $10 they say. How thick are wafers? I assumed 1 MM at 1/2mm it is about $20?
More hard details are needed. Still, if you can make Athlons run at 1.7 Ghx with just epi and at 2 Ghz with solid, then what will the Palomino do??

I estimated the epi layer as totalling 1 gram...I do not know the thickness etc, so I could be off there.
