Goldman cuts MSFT's numbers
--7:22 am - By Tomi Kilgore
Microsoft (MSFT: news, msgs) is moving $3.69 lower to $53 in Instinet
pre-market trading. Analyst Rick Sherlund at Goldman Sachs reduced
the company's fiscal second-quarter revenue estimate by $125 million
to a range of $6.775-$6.8 billion, his third-quarter estimate by $200
million and his fourth-quarter estimate by $150 million. He trimmed his
EPS estimate for fiscal 2001 to $1.88 from $1.91. The average analyst
EPS estimate for 2001 is currently $1.91, according to First Call. He
cited "the preponderance of evidence of sluggish retail PC demand" for
the changes. Sherlund maintained his "market outperform" rating,
noting that consumer PC sales represent only about 10 percent of total
sales.
