My first thought is that there might be a bit of an overreaction to the overly strong abbreviation, "BS." If I can convince tekboy to retract that characterization, I think we'll more easily recognize the important issues.

Even if the reference to "BS" persists, I infer from Apollo's post that he was referring to the authors' and publisher's decision to add the section about Godzillas and that the motivation might have been (probably was?) to take advantage in investors' interest in Internet stocks. Additionally, the methodology the manual uses to evaluate Godzillas comes into question so strongly that the methodology might also be construed as "BS." I infer from Bruce's post that he thinks the companies themselves were characterized as "BS" and I don't believe that is what Apollo is thinking. I'd appreciate hearing from both of you on that point.

Regarding the efficacy of the manual's methodology of evaluating Godzillas, I'd appreciate if everyone in the thread who has actually used the manual's Icarus method would let us know that. I'll keep track of the responses and report back to the thread. (Lurkers who don't want to post, please PM me if you've used the Icarus method.) Contrast that method with the methodology described in "Network to Net Worth" upon which Don Mosher's write-up of Yahoo! is based and future write-ups will be based. There's no question in my mind that the manual's method of evaluating Godzillas comes up short compared to the stuff in "Network to Net Worth."
