Amy, couple of comments for your post:
I seem to recall you saying something like: well, you always can tell if Intel is hitting a bad time just by checking their spending - if Intel cuts its spending, then you know something is up, there's a cycle, or the times are bad.
I remember Andy Bryant saying on the CC after Q3 that one reason Intel's GMs stayed up there was "discretionary spending" was being watched closely. Maybe they'd already started pulling in the belt some back then.
At least Intel's servers are a lot less costly than Sun. If this recent economic climate continues and spreads to the large companies, I wouldn't be surprised to see folks there flee high-cost Sun Servers to Intel Servers for cost-savings. Intel is much better positioned for this type of economic climate
A company I worked for in a previous life, second tier to IBM, you might say, always did better in economic slowdowns because companies appreciated the lower cost of their computers than IBM's. Of course, they were plug compatible, whereas Sun - Intel based are not, at least not much.
