Increase Scope of Work for Nishi-Khon/SNC-Lavalin on Diavik Diamond Project
VANCOUVER, BRITISH-COLUMBIA--DECEMBER 7, 2000 - 11:37 EST The Nishi-Khon/SNC-Lavalin joint venture has been awarded a contract estimated at approximately $20 million to provide construction management, logistics management and project control services for the $1.3-billion Diavik Diamond Project, located 300 km northeast of Yellowknife in the Northwest Territories.
Construction management will be undertaken by an integrated organization comprising Nishi-Khon/SNC-Lavalin and Diavik Diamond Mines Inc., the project operator. Logistics management includes the organization of all equipment and materials for delivery to the site by the winter road during the months of February and March. Project control will be conducted through the implementation of PM+W, SNC-Lavalin's proprietary Project Management System, which will provide cost, schedule and material control for the project.
These services are in addition to the engineering, procurement and project scheduling contract Nishi-Khon/SNC-Lavalin announced last March. When fully operational, Diavik will be the second largest diamond mine in North America, producing over six million carats per year or about five per cent of total world production. The joint venture between SNC-Lavalin and Nishi-Khon Engineering Inc., a company of the Dogrib Nation, provides the full range of engineering and environmental services to the Dogrib Nation Group of Companies and to various private sector and government clients throughout the Northwest Territories.
SNC-Lavalin Group is one of the leading engineering and construction firms in the world, and a key player in the ownership and management of infrastructure. The group and its companies have offices across Canada and in 30 other countries, and are currently working in some 100 countries. The company is listed on the Toronto Stock Exchange (symbol: SNC). |
