UPDATE on Court Cases: Sentiment says Gore has fighting chance, although certainly not a great one.
Don't want to take up much space here, but since the ruling on these cases could affect stock prices, they are worth briefing mentioning. Let's not discuss it here, since no one knows what will happen anyway.
After watching several news summaries, most feel that Gore lawyers made a decent case in front of the FL Supreme Court for recounting only the disputed ballots. Cited previous "contest law" in other verdicts. Also, while a total manual recount is impossible now, the Judges are aware that there is time for a counting of the undervotes only.
Decision later today or tomorrow as the Supreme Court is crafting a verdict right now in chambers.
Meanwhile one trial continues on whether several thousand Republican registered absentee ballots should get thrown out because ballot applications were illegally altered (even though this is more a technicality it appears than a malicious act).
Another similar trial is scheduled to start soon as well, I believe, on the same matter in another county.
Regardless, if either of these go Gore's way, he could win. Chance is small, but it could really rattle the markets and is worth keeping an eye on. |
