I would like to better understand exactly what it is that EMC President Mr. Tucci is saying when he says:
"the new products will be about half that of Network Appliance."

Apparently the market has not yet seen any pricing that was all that threatening to Network Appliance's dominant position in NAS. Perhaps the product Mr. Tucci is discussing IS half the price .. but perhaps it does not compare well when performance criteria important to the bulk of NTAP customers are considered. Still Mr. Tucci may be saying that as this new product ramps up in volume the price will drop to the point that provides a compelling challenge to Network Appliance's F840, F840c, etc.

--------------------
The ip4700 performs the same as the NetApp F840, sources say. And there's every chance that EMC will undercut Network Appliance on
price to gain market share. "EMC is not going to come in and lose business on price," Gray says. The NetApp F840 moves data at about 1G
bit/sec and can perform more than 25,000 operations per second. It starts at $120,000. The F840c, which is a two-node cluster with one-half
terabyte of disk space, costs $319,000.

Can anyone shed any light on Mr. Tucci's comments?
Perhaps he is just stretching the truth a little.
Not an unheard of practice in sales.
