Re: 1.2 GHz Athlon for $289 on Pricewatch now!!

With 1GHZ not much more than a $100 (cost to OEMS after all discounts and allowances) part next month, these prices are inevitable. The only way for AMD to get into the corporate space is if 1GHZ is perceived as a minimum speed, and Intel can't supply enough 1GHZ parts.

Given that strategy, 1.1GHZ and 1.2GHZ are only a little faster than entry level (corporate) and can't be priced too much higher.

Notice that the price of 933MHZ P3 is actually rising, despite the much heralded surplus of CPUs. Intel cannot supply the market for parts over 866MHZ - AMD's goal is turn that fact into its entry into the corporate market.

Regards,

Dan
