Rono, where did the 20-40 times analog capacity claim come from? I'm assuming you are talking about the CDMA capacity advantage?

I recall CDMA proponents claiming a 20X analog advantage. That was calculated using the 8kbps vocoder but the claim was reduced to 7-10 times amps capacity when carriers asked for the superior sound quality of the 13kbps vocoder.

Now it is well accepted the actual capacity advantage in the real world is 6-9 times amps. Nextels claims of 3X analog capacity is a little hollow since they are the only carrier using iDEN technology.

Still, I will accept the 3X claim. So a CDMA network can have twice as many subscribers as a Nextel network? That's twice as many paying customers but the same number (actually less) base stations? You don't think that is significant? Time will tell. Wireless is a growth game, those with sustainable growth will win.
