Gore's earliest and worst mistake was not asking for a manual recount of the entire state right from the beginning. It would have been MUCH more difficult for Bush to resist and though the law alloowed Gore to do what he did in choosing 3 counties, it was the stupidest most partisan thing to do. ALL of this mess flows from that error, IMO. If he was so damn convinced he won the state he shouldn't have feared the possibility of finding a few more votes for Bush.
