Gore's earliest and worst mistake was sending Jesse Jackson and Bill Daley down to scream and shout and scare everyone to death. If Gore had sent someone respectable down to respectfully ask for a manual recount using a strict standard he would have got it, and might have won. Carefully phrased, it would have sounded reasonable to everyone, I think. And there would not be these terrible hatreds being flamed. But I think it's a knee-jerk reaction for modern day Democrats to try to divide to conquer. Not the old style Democrats like Sam Nunn.
