I'm not sure I understand . . . All I saw when I came back to the US in '85 was that the Republicans were these scary people who were anti-choice and were for things like prayer in school, pro-NRA, anti-sex education, anti-public schools etc and that made me go democrat. But actually, Bill Weld was a Republican Governor in MA -- he was more my kind of Republican, socially liberal, fiscally conservative. I wish Jesse Helms hadn't squashed him! Christine Todd Whitman, what I heard anyway, was/is similar. I could still come back to the fold -- after the religious right is thrown out of the tent. -A
