Falwell's remarks should come as no surprise given the hard line against abortion drawn by the Religious Right. Whitman is pro-choice, although I don't know the parameters of her opinions in this matter. As we've all seen, the debate is framed by the extremists on both sides, and the vast majority of Americans in the middle don't seem to have a voice anymore.
