Hi ftth,

How ancient is that article? The last date mentioned specifically is 1996. A lot has gone wrong in laser defense systems since then. Recent tests over the Pacific have forced the Clinton administration to put some ARPA development on hold as basic science tries to catch up to the hype. Close range lasers seemingly would have possibilities, but the electrical generation plants they would have to carry along would most likely be the point of vulnerability.
