Manugistics says profits may beat Street view

NEW YORK, Dec 7 (Reuters) - Internet business services firm Manugistics Group Inc. <MANU.O> on Thursday said it expects third-quarter revenues and earnings to meet or exceed Wall Street expectations.

Rockville, Md.-based Manugistics said the results for the period ended Nov. 30 would also be consistent with or exceed its earlier guidance to investors and analysts.

Wall Street analysts on average expect a profit of 6 cents per share, up from a loss of 17 cents a year earlier, according to research firm First Call/Thomson Financial. Analysts expect revenues of about $61.6 million, up 72 percent from the $35.8 million reported a year earlier, according to First Call.

The company also said it has sued VirtualFund.com Inc. <VFND.O> for $4.5 million over a software licensing contractual dispute. VirtualFund has demanded the return of $2.5 million paid to Manugistics, claiming its chief executive officer was not authorized to advance the funds to Manugistics.

Manugistics shares were up $4-3/16, or nearly 4.2 percent, at $101-7/8 on Nasdaq. The stock has a 52-week range of $18-3/8 to $132-1/8.
