MPH, you make some good points but some absolutely false ones too. See, where most all people get into shaky ground is when they let their bias interfere. I don't care who wins, Gore or Bush. I more or less did a Ben Franklin and don't much like either.

Regarding your premise that Gore's main purpose is trying to undermine the legitimacy of the election and the office of the Presidency, that is the most crazy thing I've ever heard. He's trying to win, man!

The election was unbelievably close. You would do the same thing if you believed you had won. Many states even REQUIRE a recount if the vote is close. Candidate can't even stop the recount if they wanted to!

The laws of the land give him the right to ask for a recount and the laws also give all a contest period, even after certification.

That is why our forefathers put in the 2 month delay between the election and inauguration.

My goodness, man, he won the popular vote and I will bet you that one day it will be proven that he won Florida. But even beside that probability, you need to realize that it was the Bush people that have delayed this thing (in fact more so) than the Gore people. They started the first lawsuit to try to prevent manual recounts from being conducted. Can't your one-sided mind admit ANY fault at all on the Republican side?

If Bush had agreed to as statewide recount in the first place, we would have been done 2 weeks ago!

If that had happened, then we all would have had what I think we all wanted (or at least should want... that is, The REAL winner would be going to the WHITE HOUSE in January. Instead we and the world may forever have lingering doubts on who really won.

Again, Manual Recounts are accepted and proven over decades to be more accurate than machines in counting certain ballots called "undervotes", because the machine cannot count them at all. That is why states have researched and studied and then enacted a manaul recount into law AS THE LAST RESORT in close elections.

Even TEXAS!

Geese people. You guys really baffle me who can't see that. You really think you are more right than all the states who have found that to be true. You really feel you are smarter that they are? You really feel that we should throw out votes that can easily be counted by widely accepted manual recount tally standards? Standards that have been used for years in many states and in some cases have even resulted in legitimate overturned elections there?

Some or you get too hung up on pregnant and dimpled this and that. Of course you don't count ANYTHING like that. But you should want the real winner in office as determined by proper standards. The fact that Florida law was hazy on their standards is a shame, but it shouldn't be allowed to stop the process.
