SEATTLE (CBS.MW) - TrueNorth Communication's FCB dropped Amazon.com as a client due to "fundamental disagreements" about Amazon's direction in 2001.

Amazon (AMZN: news, msgs) is currently conducting a review of its global advertising accounts and FCB (TNO: news, msgs) declined to participate in the review, Amazon spokesman Bill Curry said.

"We wanted to see what they could do on global basis and they decided not to participate," Curry said.

Curry said Amazon is seeking a global network to run its advertising, especially since bulking up on the international front during 2000.

FCB, which was the sole handler of Amazon's United States advertising, had 200 offices serving clients in 96 countries and billed $8.8 billion in 1999.

Curry and FCB spokeswoman Erica Brynes declined to comment on the size of the account
