James, here is a more detailed answer which I copied from the RagingBull NT thread.
"Nortel is the only vendor that can offer 160 channels of DWDM at OC-192, a feat CIEN has still to match. Yes the Core Director is a great product and perhaps a little a head of NT's comparable product the OPTera DX, but new products are on the way, the OPTera HDX and the PX, the PX is MEMS switch and CIEN could only dream up such a thing with 1,000+ ports. In Long Haul products CIEN, and the rest are far behind, the LH 1600 (160 channels at OC-192) is the industry leading solution, CIEN's comparable product is the Core Stream (96 channels at OC-192), and they have no nonregeneration products like Nortel acquired through Qtera (OPTera LH4000) not to mention NT is much further along in OC-768 (40 Gb/s). Its important to keep in mind that CIEN was first to market with both DWDM and Metro and today they are not number 1 in any of these catagories. Lastly, In CIEN's lastest report their revenue growth was 100% on 233 million, NT's optical business last quarter grew at 90% on 3.2 billion and for the year it will come in at 120% on approx. 10 billion..." |
