Greg's list of "What IFs", anyone of which would have resulted in a "clearer" cut winner:

1. No sex addiction by Clinton=>no impeachment=>GORE wins

2. No Nader in the race=>FL goes Gore=>GORE wins

3. Ridge as Bush VP=>PA goes Bush and other marginal states go Bush=>BUSH wins

4. No DUI announcement=>BUSH wins

5. Clinton campaigns for Gore=>we will never know the impact of that, only that he would have definitely had an impact one way or the other, kind of like an option straddle.

This is merely a partial list of course, but note that all of these events and others dovetailed in a particular direction to produce a result that is certainly the closest election in over 100 years.

This election is going to be a model for examination for a long long time...hundreds of books, thousands of theses and articles, made for TV movie?
