chic..."short or long the market"
in reality biased to the long side with common stock and selective option strategies that have benefited me since the early seventies.....
i'd rather be out of the market, then be short.....why? less stress, better quality of life, then having to constantly monitor a position....
investing is not a competitive game, not about "i win, you lose", it's merely about accumulating wealth and improving one's lifestyle.....no more, no less
the last few years have created "experts"....those that constantly espouse shorting, missed the great bull run, and the converse of those who bought the proverbial dips, gave back what they accumulated...
as far as you talking long term 1-2 years, only a fool would establish a non fluid position based on what they know at the present. a long position has less inherent risk then a short position, especially if it is set at the proper time and price....
i assume you subscribe to the theory that the global economy is going to hell in a hand basket....read your history, are we better off now, in the sense of lifestyle and accumulated gains, then we were in 1930, 1940, 1950, 1960, 1970, 1980, 1990....the answer is quite obvious, and you reinforce this answer by being employed and having the ability to communicate through the magic of high tech with those who differ from you.....
amazing how there was only am on the radio not so long ago, and television with round screens and no color, and cars and homes without air conditioning and heat....
times change, and eventually for the better.... |
