| I am very fond of Kurt, even if he is a sentimental liberal. I had only read "Player Piano" before college, having a taste for dystopian literature ("1984", "Brave New World", "We"), but I had a friend my junior year with most of his books, and I started to devour them. I am not sure what is my favorite. I am very fond of "Cat's Cradle" ("We do doodily do doodily do doodily do what we must muddily must muddily must muddily must..."), and also "God Bless You, Mr. Rosewater". "Welcome to the Monkey House" is a great story, and there are several others that are very fine in the collection. I am partial to "Wampeter, Foma, and Granfalloons", a collection of essays and speeches. I especially like a commencement address he gave to a girl's prep school where he tells them that they are much to young to feel responsible for the world, and recommends "skylarking", surely one of the most attractive of naval offenses........ |
